Topic 3.7 The Health Benefits of Physical Activity

Did you know that in addition to helping you look and feel your best, physical activity can help reduce your risk of contracting many diseases? No kidding! The most comprehensive report on the health benefits of physical activity was first published in 1996 in the Surgeon General’s Report on Physical Activity. The report was based on an accumulation of evidence demonstrating that physical inactivity is a major risk factor for many diseases. Furthermore, the report provided evidence that physical activity can significantly reduce the risk of many diseases.

So the next time you’re outside actively playing with friends, remember that you’re doing your heart, bones, muscles, and brain a whole lot of good.
