It’s time to get at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day! You may be asking yourself, "Says who?" or "What’s moderate physical activity?" Well, let’s start with the first question. Almost all professional organizations who are concerned about youth (children and adolescent) health have reached a consensus that all children should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate physical activity each day. These professional organizations include the National Association for Sport and Physical Education (NASPE), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the American Heart Association (AHA), and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP).

What is moderate physical activity? It’s activity that makes your heart beat faster, makes you breathe more rapidly, and makes your body feel warm. Perhaps you like
vigorous physical activity even better. Vigorous physical activity makes you sweat, makes your heart beat really fast, and makes you breathe rapidly. If you haven’t been very active, start with moderate physical activity to increase your fitness. If you’re already physically active, do vigorous physical activity to become more physically fit.
