Teamwork is critical to the success of race car drivers, sailors, cheerleading squads, and those in almost every other sport and physical activity that involves more than one person. In most cases there is one leader responsible for making decisions, but successfully executing a play or maneuver requires the coordinated effort of all group members. In many ways this is a metaphor for life. While you are the leader in your life, you’ll need the support of others to accomplish your goals. As a citizen of your community, you’ll also be called on to support family, friends, and members of your community. We hope that you seek opportunities to become a community leader.
Author Sean Covey has identified 7 habits of highly effective teenagers. Three of the 7 habits relate directly to the importance of teamwork. For example:
- Habit 4: Think win-win.
Have an "everyone-can-win" attitude.
- Habit 5: Seek first to understand, then to be understood.
Listen to people sincerely.
- Habit 6: Synergize.
Work together to achieve more.
