Topic 9.2 Skills and Skill-Related Fitness

Have you ever considered what skill-related fitness components are necessary for successfully performing the skills in your favorite sports or activities? If you haven’t, divide a piece of paper into two columns. In the first column list your favorite sports or activities; in the second column list the skill-related fitness components necessary for successfully performing these activities. The following is an example using my favorite sports.

Sports or activitiesSkill-related fitness components
Hockey Agility, balance, coordination, speed, power, reaction time
Snowboarding Agility, balance, coordination, reaction time
Golf Coordination, balance

As you can see from this example, hockey is a sport that requires all components of skill-related fitness. Now, can you add a column and identify some of the most important skills in these sports?
