Topic 14.4 More About MyPyramid and Other Pyramids

MyPyramid Information

In 2005 the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) revised its dietary guidelines. The dietary guidelines are revised every five years, and as part of this revision the USDA introduced MyPyramid to provide nutrition advice based on the most recent scientific studies.

Several special programs are available at the MyPramid Web site to help you use it more effectively:

  • Tour MyPyramid This site provides you with general information concerning MyPyramid.
  • Inside MyPyramid This site describes the types of foods in each of the colored bands of MyPyramid.
  • MyPyramid Plan This site allows you to determine choices from food groups based on age, gender, and activity level.
  • MyPyramid Tracker This site allows you to track (self-monitor) the amount of food you eat and the amount of physical activity you get.

Other Pyramids

Food guide pyramids have been developed for specific audiences, such as preschoolers, kids, the general population, and people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
