Why deliver a Wellness Week?

If your school system has invested in Fitness for Life: Elementary School resources, then it has already made a commitment to improving students’ health and wellness. What follows is a long list of reasons why the program as a whole, and the Wellness Week concept in particular, is beneficial:

  • Fitness for Life: Elementary School helps schools meet key guidelines of the mandated local wellness policy (Public Law 108-265) and can help your school meet wellness planning guidelines.
  • Classroom teachers and physical educators can use the program to help children meet the national physical activity guidelines.
  • Classroom teachers and physical educators can use Fitness for Life: Elementary School to help children become physically fit.
  • Classroom teachers and physical educators can use the program to help children meet the national nutrition guidelines.
  • Classroom teachers and physical educators can use Fitness for Life: Elementary School to provide regular physical activity that can contribute to academic achievement.
  • In addition to creating a healthy school culture, Fitness for Life: Elementary School engages parents and community members in physical activity and healthy eating.
  • The program enables classroom teachers to integrate physical activity into their daily lessons and helps children see the interconnection between physical activity and math, science, language arts, art, music, and social studies.
  • Classroom teachers and physical educators can use the program to teach students about important concepts in physical activity, nutrition, and fitness.
