What is Fitness for Life: Elementary School and what does it involve?

Fitness for Life: Elementary School is a program that promotes wellness, physical activity, sound nutrition, and healthy lifestyles throughout the entire school. Your child participates in special classroom physical activity breaks using grade-level-appropriate activity videos, special physical education activities, special nutrition activities in the classroom and the cafeteria, and schoolwide events that include TEAM Time activities. (TEAM stands for Together Everyone Achieves More.) You may receive newsletters about these activities during special Wellness Weeks held four times a year.

As part of Fitness for Life: Elementary School, students in grades 3 to 6 will perform several health-related fitness tests that assess aerobic fitness, muscle fitness, and flexibility. Students are not compared to one another on these tests. Instead, these tests teach students about fitness testing, goal setting, and the importance of fitness for good health.  To learn more about these tests, visit the Fitnessgram website.
