Bullying

Bullying occurs when one person keeps doing or saying things to have power over another person. Bullying is a negative behavior that lacks character and makes the person being bullied feel afraid or uncomfortable.

A bully's actions might include calling other people names, saying or writing nasty things about them, leaving them out of activities, not talking to them, threatening them, making them feel uncomfortable or scared, taking or damaging their things, hitting or kicking them, or making them do things they don't want to do.

Have any of these things happened to you? Have you done any of these things to someone else?

People bully for many different reasons. They might see bullying as a way to be popular or to make themselves look tough and commanding. Some bullies do it to get attention, to make other people afraid of them, or to take things that belong to others. Others do it because they're actually jealous of the person they're bullying and want to put that person down. Some people become bullies as a result of being bullied themselves. Believe it or not, some bullies might not realize that their behavior is wrong and that it makes the bullied person feel bad.
