Plyometrics

One of the most popular forms of anaerobic training is plyometric training. Plyometric training is a type of training that is designed to help athletes increase their power. Power is the combination of strength and speed, and an athlete typically does plyometric training once he or she has developed a desired amount of strength. In fact, athletes who do not have an adequate level of muscular strength for their sports should not do plyometric training. Plyometric training, first known as jump training, involves hopping and jumping with a focus on moving with speed and minimizing contact with the ground. Plyometric training is dynamic resistance exercise that involves the rapid lengthening and shortening of the muscles. This training also conditions the nervous system to react more quickly to this rapid lengthening and shortening of muscle. Because of the importance of jumping in volleyball, plyometric training is essential for volleyball athletes.
